Seee.. I’m a bad host!

16 02 2010

So it’s certainly been an eternity since I’ve posted on here. I’ve used my cell quite a bit for taking on-the-spot pictures and it refuses to acknowledge the exsistance of my computer, or uploading to FB. *boo!*

Oh, and we went for a walk last week, Alice Lake, heaven on earth. Its February. (8th-ish) Wanna go swimming?? The other one is of myself and Kevin, a fellow volunteer here from Revelstoke. Great guy! Super funny!

So .. thoughts on the opening ceremonies? ? I’ve heard some controversial comments on how she “Americanized” the Canadian national anthem.. I thought it was a little dragged out, but on the plus side, at least she’s got a wonderful set of pipes on her.

I still haven’t watched all of the ceremonies yet, but the parts that I did manage to catch were absolutely amazing (and kinda funny; yay technical difficulties!). It was pretty much common knowledge around here that Wayne was going to be lighting the tourch. Betty Fox had carried it the day before, the Rick Hansen the day before that.. and the Gov-ah-nat-or had carried it earlier that day in Stanley Park (apparantly quite the site to see.. why he carried it.. who knows.. he was a steroid junkie when he was in his prime.. anti-doping would have had fun with him!)

K.D. Lang BLEW MY MIND. She’s got a great set of pipes on her (voice, not arms) and woah. I’m still super addicted to it. Then the tribal dancers were fantastic as well.. and had the endurance to dance for the entire time that the athletes were parading throughout the stadium, plus their own entrance. Kudos!!

So at WOP we have four events, Ski Jump, Cross Country, Nordic Combine (such a wierd event) and Biathalon. Watching the ski jumping has been great. Its so cool to watch those guys flying in the air. I’m excited to see the guys jump off of the big jump this week. I’m gonna take pictures, I promice! Cross country was today, I’m gonna try and check them out on my next shift. They’re so close to us.

COW BELLS. It’s all we hear. COWBELLS. They’re on sale at Wallymart in town, and are non-stop. It’s amazing, but brings a whole new meaning to the needing of more cowbell! Eek! There are so many travellers here too! I’ve become really good friends with some of the locals, and am seriously considering moving here post graduation. Its beautiful, and theres so much to do !

Okay. I”m starting to babble.. A lot.

Hopefully the pictures work.

Cousins are going to the Canada v. Norway game tomorrow. I’m sooo excited for them! I get to spend some time with their little one, who is just toooooo cute for words. (for real. she’s gonna be a man eater :p )

Gah. Time is flying by so fast. It sucks! I’m gonna be headed back to Winnipeg soon, and its gonna be the most depressing drive of my life.
BLAH.

SO much I want to say. gonna stop now. :)

Exciteddd!

4 02 2010

So, tomorrow is my first official shift as a VANOC volunteer! I’ve already got all my blues laid out, I’m going to pack my bag tonight, and head to the shuttle first thing in the morning!

Yesterday, I adventured into downtown Vancouver. That was fun! I went to Granville, and saw the countdown clock, some street entertainers, along with other sites! The Lanterns were so cute! If you go to Facebook, I’ve posted some of those pictures there. I found the Lulu Lab where I was able to go and look at some of their rare designs, AND was able to make my own pair of lulus! (They’ll be ready in a week, I’m excited!!!) I also went shopping downtown, saw the Coach store, along with a Bench store, where I bought a super cute pink zip up! Yay! I then came hope and had a delicious supper made by my wonderful hosts (Brussel sprouts… I ate brussel sprouts!!) and then dedicated the remainder of the day to watching TV, and doing EP.

Today so far looks to be an absolutely beautiful day! The sun is shining, it’s just slightly overcast, and I really couldn’t have asked for a better day! It’ll probably go up to about 10 degrees (the average right now, which is high for the norm) today, especially with the sun. Whistler is supposed to just be around 3… which still.. is about 5 million times better than Wpg :p   jk, kinda!

I should probably return my focus to the wonderful world of EP and International Marketing. Its due today. Not sure when. The time difference is definitely proving to be a little bit challenging. At least I’ve got my computer still set to Wpg time, but my celly phone is BC.

SO EXCITED FOR TOMORROW!

Also hoping my cousin Monique a safe flight today! I’ll hopefully be able to see all of my family out here :) Gonna try!

I’m not the best blogger. I appologize, but at least I’m trying! I’ll take some pictures tomorrow on the site. Athletes are starting to arrive, it should be fun!

Went for a stroll!

2 02 2010

Well, today, day 4.

Thus far, I’ve done all my training at the mountain, and today, I got to pick up my BLUES! :)

(Pictures to follow)

Also, took a walk through Stanley Park which was fabulous. It started to get a lil rainy (WAY BETTER THAN SNOW… FYI.. in case you were wondering..) alas I just embraced the pacific coast weather, the ocean views, and went for an adventure. I burned my camera out, every picture til the battery died. Most pictures are on Faceboook, but I’ll try to add some pics from the drive and then walk today! Here we go!!

Day… 3? I think..

1 02 2010

Well.. I’m going to start this on Day three. I’m hoping I finally get the computer/blackberry/picture thing sorted out tomorrow morning/afternoon hopefully I can post some pretty awesome pics of my to-be-new-snazzy uniform for the games. (squeeeeeee!!) I’m so excited for the blue addition to my ward robe. It’ll be so pretty!

Today I did my venue training, Whistler Olympic Park! It was cool. I got be introduced to my manager who is absolutely fantastic, with amazing stories. I also got a personal tour, because I was the only one from my department who was at my session. *cooool!* The park looks absolutely stunning. I”m so happy I was given the chance to get a whole tour with out spectators. The Ski Jump is located right behind the trailor that I’m working in. It looks amazing in the dark. The lights and all. The biathalon looks cool too! And the cross country ski is to the left of the ski jump. Really cool stuff!! First shift starts on Saturday, when the athletes start arriving. I’m super excited. OMG! I’m not the only Winnipegger here either! GO FIGURE! She’s working with me in my department, so I’m pretty excited to get to know her more. We’re REP-re-SENTIN’!

Anyways. I think its bed time, or at least time to retire to the bedroom, email the teachers, let them know its not all fun and games… that i’m at least thinking about them back in the cold abyss that is winnipeg manitoba.

I’m trying to think of things I can buy for my cousin for letting me stay here for so long. Ideas? And, Winnipeg is expecting gifts.. what do I bring back?!

Happy Sunday! Hope Monday is all rainbows and lollypops!
